The Nigerian Association of Deejays have lamented over poor representation in the music and entertainment industry despite its huge contribution in the growth and preservation of both local and global music ecosystem.
The Association’s Project Consultant and Chief Executive Officer of leadership Scorecard Magazine, Humphrey Onyima made this known at a press conference ahead of it’s award slated for 6th December.
Onyima who explained that deejays are vital players in the music ecosystem emphasized that they shape trends, promote artists and serve as cultural ambassadors by introducing new sounds to local and global audience.
“Nigeria’s music industry has witnessed explosive growth, contribution significantly to the global music scene. From the dominance of Afrobeats to the infusion of traditional Nigerian rhymes modern soundscapes, the industry is thriving” he added.
Onyima stressed that the aim of the awards ceremony is to elevate the status of DJs by providing a platform that will highlights their importance and influence in the entertainment industry.
“However, while artists, producers and music video directors are often celebrated in numerous award shows, the critical role of the deejays (DJs) remains largely underrepresented,” Onyima added.
He added that the awards categories comprises of best club, best radio, best Afrobeat, DJ of the year, best female, best event, breakthrough, lifetime achievement and electronic music DJ of the year.
Onyima explained that the nomination process will be done via electronic votes by the members of the association and the public.
