The Director General Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), Umar Ibrahim Mohammed has advised states along river banks to move its citizens safe location and secure their lives and property.
A statement signed by him in Abuja emphasized that the persisted rain across the nation has caused some of the devastating flash floods.
The agency promised to monitor the water levels of major rivers and tributaries, issuing flood warning and alerts as well as providing flood predictions.
“NIHSA is pro-actively in synergy with emergency response agencies and the Media. It is an effort to help save lives and property of Nigerians in order to abate flood impact, enhance food security, promote national resilience to flood thereby fostering sustainable water resources management
The steady rise in the water levels of river Niger and Benue has gotten to the red Mark advised citizens along river banks to relocate to safe location to secure their lives and property.”
