Food crisis: Fed govt distributes 740 trucks of rice across Nigeria

The federal government has distributed a total of 740 trucks of rice to the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who disclosed this to journalists at the State House, Abuja, on Monday, July 15, after the 8th FEC meeting of 2024, also explained that the food supply is part of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention to Nigerians, aimed at alleviating persisting food crisis.

The minister, who appealed to state governors to ensure an effective distribution of the food supply to reach the people who are mostly in need of it, explained further that each state, including the FCT is given 20 trucks containing 1,200 bags of 25kg of rice.

The minister, who was flanked by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said that the President directed the Minister of Agriculture to ensure that food is made available to Nigerians.

He explained that the distribution of trucks of rice was also to ensure that the hardship in the country is ameliorated, adding that it’s expected that the state governors will distribute the trucks of rice to the most vulnerable.
