NiMet Predicts 3-Day Thunderstorms, Rains Across Nigeria

Arainy and thundery weather forecast has been issued by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) for Sunday to Tuesday across the country.

According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Saturday, the northern region can expect thunderstorms in the morning hours of Sunday, specifically in Borno, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Gombe states.

As the day progresses, thunderstorms are anticipated to spread across most parts of the region, persisting into the evening hours, NAN reports.

It said, “In the North Central region, thunderstorms with rain are expected over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau States during the morning hours.

“Later in the day, thunderstorms with rain are expected over the entire region. Cloudy skies are expected over southern cities during the morning hours, with intermittent rain expected over most parts of the region later in the day.”

NiMet’s weather forecast for Monday predicts morning thunderstorms in parts of Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, Adamawa, Yobe, and Jigawa states, with thunderstorms expected over the northern region later in the day.

NiMet predicts morning thunderstorms with rain in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara states.

It forecasts thunderstorms in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, and Niger states later in the day, with cloudy skies over southern states.

NiMet anticipates intermittent rain in most parts of the region during the afternoon and evening hours.

It said, “For Tuesday, morning thunderstorms are expected over parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kaduna States in the northern region.

“Later in the day, cloudy skies are anticipated over the entire region.

“In the North Central region, thunderstorms with rain are anticipated over parts of Niger and Kwara States during the morning hours.

During the afternoon and evening hours, thunderstorms with rain are expected over parts of Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory, and Benue States. Intermittent rain is expected over the southern region throughout the day.”

NiMet warns of potential urban flooding in major cities due to heavy downpours and advises residents to steer clear of flood-prone areas.

Additionally, strong winds may precede thunderstorms in affected regions. To ensure safety, the public is urged to follow safety advisories from relevant authorities and stay informed through NiMet’s weather updates on their website – www.nimet.gov.ng.

Airline operators are also advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet to facilitate effective operational planning.
