Manchester United’s disastrous 2023/24 European journey finally came to an end thanks to yet another disappointing result at Old Trafford as the Red Devils fell to Bayern Munich 1-0 in front of their own fans.
Kingsley Coman’s goal midway through the second half was enough to hand Bayern Munich a 1-0 win as the Bavarians completed the double over the Red Devils.
Thanks to the disgraceful Old Trafford loss, Manchester United finished bottom of Group A, allowing Danish minnows Copenhagen to join Bayern Munich in the next round.
How it happened
Manchester United suffered an early personnel blow as they were forced to make a substitution in the first half.
The Premier League’s November Player of the Month, Harry Maguire, was forced off with an injury and replaced by Jonny Evans in the 40th minute.
Despite the setback, Manchester United managed to hold their own against the Bavarians and entered the break level at 0-0.
Although Manchester United needed the three points more than the visitors, they still found themselves holding on for dear life for the majority of the game as Bayern Munich piled on the pressure.
Their resilience finally failed when Bayern Munich took the lead through Coman, who benefitted from a brilliant assist by Manchester United summer target Harry Kane.
