Victor Osimhen has been named the best player for the 2022/23 Serie A season at the Gran Gala Del Calcio held in Milan on Monday night.

The award is voted on and presented by the Italian Footballers’ Association AIC in recognition of the Napoli striker’s contributions enroute to winning the historic Scudetto last season.

Osimhen finished the 2022/23 season as the top scorer in Serie A with 26 goals, becoming the first ever African Capocannoniere but it still was not enough for him to be named the official player of the season.

Kvicha Kvaratskhelia was named Serie A MVP for the 2022/23 season in controversial circumstances as many believed the award rightfully belonged to Osimhen.

The Nigerian had to settle for the Striker of the Year gong at the Serie A awards but will be delighted that his exploits from last season are now being officially recognised.

Osimhen will probably cherish this award more as it is a form of validation from his peers because the award is voted for and presented by the Italian Footballers Association, AIC.
